What to Expect

Whether you grew up in church or have never stepped foot in a meeting, we want you to feel welcomed and valued. Don't worry about when to sit or stand or what to say. The leaders from the front will give you instructions through the meeting.

Our Sunday worship is all about Jesus and the gospel.

Practically that includes five major elements:

  1. Praise

In our Sunday meeting we come together in unity to worship the Lord Jesus Christ with songs of praise and thanksgiving. During the time of corporate worship there is opportunity for the ministry of the gifts of the Spirit, in accordance with 1 Corinthians 14 for the well-being and maturing of the entire community of believers to direct everyone to Christ. This means that our praise is focused on the character and holiness of God.

  1. Prayer & Repentance

Philippians 4:6, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication let your requests be made known to God." During the Sunday gathering there is time given for prayers to be offered and heard. Having sung about the greatness of God, we can't help but realize that we do not measure up to His standard of perfect righteousness. Repentance is the correct response to the gospel and includes praying to God for forgiveness, turning from sin, and walking in obedience to Christ.

  1. Communion & Hope

Prior to His trial and execution on the cross, Jesus shared a special meal with His disciples. During the meal, He held up a glass of wine and said, "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins" (Matt 26:28). He commanded the Church to partake in the Lord's Supper (aka Communion) to remember this and to glorify God. We celebrate the Communion meal every Lord's Day at New Covenant, that we might be made "partakers of Christ's body and blood, with all His benefits, to our spiritual nourishment and growth in grace" (Westminster Shorter Catechism 96). Having repented of sin, we have hope that the Lord has forgiven and saved us.

  1. Thanksgiving

Prayers and songs of thanksgiving are important to the church and are highlighted throughout the meeting. Our desire is to respond to the gospel's good news with joy and thanks to God.

  1. Christ Centered Preaching

The Sunday sermon is about learning and applying the truth of the Bible. Since we know God's grace and salvation through the gospel, we want to honor and love Jesus by obeying His teaching. So, every Sunday gathering we have a Christ centered message given by one of the pastoral ministries of the church. Our goal is to answer, "so now how do I honor Jesus and love Him well?" The preaching is thus designed to affect your thinking, your emotions, and your actions to glorify God through your everyday life.
